"The pleasing sound of masters at play" - BBC Radio 2

Welcome to the Swarb's Lazarus Website
Last updated Wednesday 25th July 2009

Swarb's Lazarus was a trio featuring the legendary English fiddler Dave Swarbrick (ex-Fairport Convention, ex-Whippersnapper), known affectionately as Swarb, ace guitarist Kevin Dempsey (ex-Whippersnapper) and multi-instrumentalist Maartin Allcock (ex-Fairport Convention, ex-Jethro Tull). Swarb's Lazarus played mostly traditional music of the British Isles.

Swarb received a new pair of lungs in October 2004 after years of debilitating emphysema which left him at death's door a few times, but he wasn't quite ready to fulfil his premature obituary which was published in the Daily Telegraph in April 1999...

"IT'S A DAY" - SWARB'S LAZARUS CALL IT A DAY

Lazarus is to be de-resurrected. We all thank you for your support and hope to see you at one of our farewell gigs listed on the tour dates page. – Dave Swarbrick, January 13th, 2009.

Everything has its natural lifespan and it takes a brave man to realise that maybe a great idea has run its course. It's been a real privilege for me seeing Swarb back treading the boards. He once confided in me that even in the darkest depths of his illness, he never believed that the day would not come when he didn't get back up onstage. We've had some great fun with Swarb's Lazarus, and I have learned such a lot from this man, the most influential English fiddler who ever graced our planet. He has been a total inspiration to me since I was 13 years old and a friend since I was 17 years old, some 35 years ago this year. I know that whatever he decides to do, he will continue to push the barrier to bring the traditional music of these green isles to a wider appreciation by the people who inhabit them. We will continue to work together on the Dave Swarbrick Tunebook and hopefully we can get this out by later this year. Thanks to all who have supported us these last three years and we'll see you down the road. - Maartin Allcock, January 14th, 2009.

Our friend Martin Bell has put some live footage from the Abingdon gig in April 2006 on YouTube. This was our second ever gig and some pieces from this performance appear on the live album.

LIVE ALBUM

Live And Kicking

NOW AVAILABLE

This live album marks the legendary fiddler Dave Swarbrick's triumphant return to the stage after seven years, after a life-threatening illness, a life-saving operation and a life-affirming recovery, recorded at four special performances in Spring 2006, together with guitarist Kevin Dempsey and multi-instrumentalist Maartin Allcock.

The album also features a whole extra CD ROM section which you can locate if you put your CD into your computer, including extra photographs, printable sheet music, song lyrics and even a T-shirt design which you can print out onto iron-on paper to make your own T-shirts. Unfortunately I forgot to resize the T-shirt designs, so you'll need to set "fit to page" on your printer preferences and print it landscape. Test it on a sheet of plain paper first. There's no need to mirror the images as they are already reversed.

Orders now being taken at the shop
or by cheque for £14.50 (including postage & packing) and made out to Squiggle Records to:
Squiggle Records, PO Box 31, Harlech, LL46 2WQ, Wales.

Swarb's Lazarus Live And Kicking is now available in the shops in the UK, distributed by Proper, but if you order it direct from us we get more of a cut...
